Soil is life – terra est vita – is Avondale’s slogan. So what? Lots of wineries have catchy tag lines. But how many wineries have taken the drastic step of scrapping and entire range – 17 wines, red, white, sweet and sparkling – in order to wipe the slate clean and start afresh?
“We didn’t go the organic and biodynamic route to be certified and jump on the greenie bandwagon,’ Johnathan Grieve, viticulturist and general manager of Avondale, says. ‘ We did it because it’s the right thing to do.”
